pleasantville: a sociological character study!!!
how does this character interact with american values?
as seen before in class, the modern american values are
-
equal opportunity
-
achievement and success
-
material comfort
-
activity and work
-
practicality and efficiency
-
progress
-
science
-
democracy and enterprise
-
freedom
most of these characteristics are seen in the town often by different characters, but bill johnson mostly represents the values of freedom and equal opportunity. in the beginning when bud is late, he didn't know what to do because he was so used to the routine. as things began to change he began to become more free and a thinking, developing person who wanted to paint in color even though it was against the law and he was being discriminated against for being "colored" (equal opportunity)
