pleasantville: a sociological character study!!! 

bill johnson deals with many sanctions throughout the movie due to the fact that he is one of the most subculture characters in the movie. the first painting he displays in plain sight of bud's mother causes a riot and the conformist (aka black and white) town members destroy his shop. the mayor then provides another sanction based on his actions that are considered out of the norm; he makes a law saying that painting could not be done in color and only in black and white.

 

the second time he paints something in color in plain sight, he and bud are arrested and then taken to court where their fate is pretty much sealed. these are both examples of negative sanctions that my character experiences; although some characters do experience positive sanctions bill johnson is not one of those characters.
