bill johnson is a perfect example of subculture in pleasantville. he is mesmerized by art and color in a world where the norm is black and white and limited creativity. bill's love of painting becomes even more of an example of subculture when using colored paints in the town becomes illegal; his demonstration of colorful and cultured art on a wall where everyone can see it is an example of how the subculture becomes counterculture because he is actively trying to change colorful painting into something of the norm and not frowned down upon.
